A Star Decorators

03 / spraying

On-site commercial spraying: the finish brush-and-roll can't reach.

A factory-grade spray finish, done on site without taking anything out. HVLP for control on the detail and edges, airless for the big repetitive runs. Full polythene masking and live-site extraction so the rest of the building keeps working.

On-site spraying. A Star Decorators

When this is the right route

  • Brush-and-roll won't reach the finish standard required.
  • The substrate is large or repetitive and roller marks would show.
  • The programme requires shift-pattern delivery and a consistent film thickness.

Scope · included

  • HVLP and airless capability on the same job
  • Full polythene masking and dust-curtaining
  • Extraction strategy for live-site work
  • Finish samples on substrate before mobilisation

Scope · not included

  • Powder coating (off-site process)
  • Structural repair
  • Cladding manufacture

Process

  1. 01

    Survey

Access method (mast, scissor, scaffold), substrate type, adjacent glazing exposure, extraction requirement. Sample cut on substrate where finish standard is critical, agreed in writing before mobilisation.

  2. 02

    Specification

HVLP for control on detail and edges; airless for repetitive large coverage. Agreed dry film thickness per coat. Sheen level confirmed against a physical sample on the actual substrate.

  3. 03

    RAMS

Full polythene masking schedule, dust-curtain locations, extraction plan, respirator matrix, exclusion zones during atomisation. Public routes and adjacent occupied areas called out specifically.

  4. 04

    Delivery

Mask, sample-cut for client approval, spray in phases, demask each phase before the next starts. Adjacent finishes inspected at demask. No open-overnight masking left on live glazing.

  5. 05

    Handover

Walk-the-line, snag, sign-off. Film-thickness check at random sample points where the spec calls for it. Photo record of finished elevations.

Case study

M&S · Poole

Poole Road, Poole BH12 · Spraying

Interior decorating and extra works for the M&S Poole/Redlands store. Delivered live within an occupied trading environment under Morris & Spottiswood. Six approved extra-works packages grew the contract value from £34,494 to £44,983. One payment application has been certified and paid.

This case study supports searches for live-site commercial decorating, retail refurbishment, on-site spraying and aluminium frame restoration by showing the kind of programme, access and handover constraints A Star Decorators handles for national estate clients.

Built for the people who buy decorating

Three audiences. One delivery model.

We are a specialist sub-contractor, not a turnkey fit-out outfit. We deliver decorating, spraying, restoration and coatings under main contractors and direct estate teams.

For main contractors

Hands on decorating. On time, every time, snags closed before handover.

Variations priced ahead of the request. Per-store handover record. AFPs delivered on the day they're due. We run the way you run.

  • Active main-contractor framework relationships
  • Variations priced ahead of the request, AFPs on the day they are due
  • Per zone handover record across multi store programmes

For estate + FM teams

Live trading stays live. Restoration before replacement.

Survey to handover without closing the unit. Powder-coat restoration with a 5-7 year service life. Run-off, masking and reopening tracked store-by-store.

  • Out-of-hours + phased delivery on rolling estate programmes
  • Photo-led handover record per store / per elevation
  • DOFF, chemical and jet-wash cleaning ahead of any coating

For retail estate leads

Brand consistency, store by store, on the date you promised.

Brand-matched paint stacks against the estate spec. KPI reporting per store. Programme that survives shopfit slippage instead of inheriting it.

  • Multi-store rolling programmes. KPI reported nightly
  • Brand-matched Dulux Trade specifications
  • Repeat-work relationships across Primark · Tesco · M&S

Frequently asked

  • How do you control overspray?

Full polythene masking, dust curtains where airflow allows, and extraction where the site permits. We sample-cut before full coverage so the finish is agreed before scale begins.

  • How fast does it dry?

Most water-based finishes are touch-dry within 30 minutes and recoatable within 2-4 hours. Solvent systems need longer and we plan the shift pattern around them.

  • Can you spray at height?

Yes. Mast lifts, scissor lifts and scaffold are standard. Access method is confirmed at survey.

  • Will glazing be protected?

Glazing, gaskets and surrounding fixtures are masked before primer. Glass is checked at demask before handover.

  • Can you work during trading hours?

Often yes, with the right extraction and shift pattern. Some sites need overnight delivery. We agree the approach at survey, not on the morning of mobilisation.
